Pleurotus ostreatus(Oyster) extract 30% polysaccharides
Pleurotus ostreatus, the oyster mushroom, is a common edible
mushroom and is now grown commercially around the world for food.
It is famous for its delicious taste and high quantities of
proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins as well as low fat.
As a result, it is a prospective source of valuable food protein.
It is reported that Pleurotus ostreatus contains higher
concentrations of cystine, methionine and aspartic acid than other
edible mushrooms, such as Agaricus bisporus (brown), A. bisporus
(white) and Lentines edodes .In addition, it is an organism with
the ability to effectively bioconvert various lignocellulosic
materoals. The medicinally beneficial effects of P. ostreatus, such
as their antioxidant activities, immunomodulatory effects,
antitumor activities, and antiviral, antiinflammatory, antibiotic
and cholesterol-lowering activities, are well known worldwide. A
novel water-soluble polysaccharide (POPS-1) was obtained from the
fruiting bodies of Pleurotus ostreatus by hot water extraction and
it has antitumor activity.
