Natural diamond surface - set bits differ from impregnated bits in that they only have a single layer of diamonds set onto the working surface of bits according to a pre-determined pattern, Its waterways are usually shallower than an impregnated bit because of the single layer of diamonds. Some bits are designed with face Discharge holes to minimize core wash when drilling sin soft and fractured formations.

diamonds to keep the carat weight (and initial bit cost) as low as possible in a balanced design.

Diamond Grade is the most important factor to take into consideration when selection a bit. As it affects total meters drilled and therefore affects cost per meter drilled.
