Impregnated diamond drill bits are designed to perform as grinders, diamond are embedded in an infiltrated or sintered matrix.
The matrix erodes away at the same rate as the diamonds become worn and rounded, thus new sharp diamonds are exposed to continue cutting through the rock.

Imprgnation Depth

This refers to the thickness of the diamond impreganated matrix layer on a core bit crown as shown in the illustration below. Rockcode offers many sizes of core bits with standard impregnation depths from 5mm to 20mm. Other customer defined impreganation depths are available on request. Unless otherwise spcified, a standard 12mm impregnation depth is supplied for most of our Customer.

The matrix of our impregnated bits is designed to expose new diamonds to the bits' cutting face as wear occurs. Fast penetration rate is maintained as a result of this action.Our impregnated bits are manufactured to give optimum penetration rates and bit life, which is required to keep the cost of diamond drilling to a minimum.The optimum diamond size, concentration and matrix type are dependent on the hardness and abrasiveness of the formation to be drilled.
