Process Steps:
Unwinding: A large roll of food-grade base paper (substrate) is mounted on an unwinding stand.
Pre-heating: The paper passes through pre-heating rollers to remove surface moisture and raise its temperature. This improves the adhesion of the molten plastic.
Extrusion Lamination (The Core Step):
Plastic resin (PE or PLA pellets) is fed into an extruder.
Inside the extruder, the pellets are melted into a liquid state through heat and mechanical shear from a rotating screw.
The molten plastic is forced through a flat, horizontal T-Die (or Slot Die), forming a uniform curtain of film.
This film is precisely applied onto the surface of the high-speed moving paper.
Pressing and Cooling: The newly laminated paper immediately passes through a nip roller system, consisting of a chilled steel roller and a rubber roller.
Pressure ensures intimate contact and removes any air bubbles.
The chilled roller rapidly solidifies the molten plastic, locking it onto the paper.
Rewinding: The finished laminated composite paper is wound back into large rolls, now called Laminated Paper or Coated Paper.
These master rolls are then sent for subsequent processing: printing, die-cutting (into side wall blanks), and cup forming.
