Unlike compression springs, extension springs are manufactured with tightly wound coils that are normally in a closed position. They absorb and store energy by extending under a tensile (pulling) load. The spring exerts a pulling force to return to its original closed length when the load is removed. They typically feature loops or hooks at each end for attachment.
