Primary Usage: How to Use an External Spring Lotion Pump

The process is straightforward and designed for one-handed operation, which is convenient in the shower or at the sink.

1. Unlock the Mechanism (If Applicable): Many lotion pumps have a safety or travel lock.

   • Twist Lock: Look for arrows on the pump head. Twist the nozzle to the "open" or "unlock" position. This aligns internal parts and allows the spring to compress.

   • Lift Lock: Some pumps require you to pull the nozzle upwards to unlock it before the first use.

2. Position the Bottle: Hold the bottle steady, usually with one hand. For thicker products, it's best to keep the bottle upright.

3. Press the Actuator: Use your finger or thumb to press down firmly and completely on the pump head.

   • The external spring compresses as you press down.

   • This action creates pressure inside the pump chamber, forcing the product up the dip tube and out through the nozzle.

4. Release the Actuator: Once you've pressed fully, release the pressure.

   • The external spring expands back to its original length, which lifts the actuator back to its starting position.

   • This return stroke creates suction, drawing more product from the bottle up the dip tube to refill the pump chamber, ready for the next use.

5. Dispense Product: The product is dispensed, typically as a dollop or a short ribbon, directly into your other hand or onto the desired surface.
