What is drill bit ?

A drill bit is a cutting tool installed on a drilling machine that processes cylindrical holes in materials (such as metal, wood, and concrete) by rotating or grinding.

Functions

1. Drilling (core function). Forming through holes/blind holes: penetrating the material to form through holes (through holes) or processing blind holes (non-penetrating) of a specified depth.
2. Hole expansion (adjusting the hole diameter). Enlarging existing holes: expanding the diameter of pre-drilled small holes to improve accuracy.

Structural Features

1. Point. First contact with the material, centering and cutting.
2. Margin. Guide the drill bit to move linearly to ensure hole diameter accuracy. Reduce friction between the drill body and the hole wall (only the margin contacts the hole wall).
3. Flute. Guide the cutting debris out of the hole.
4. Drill shank.
5. Neck. Grinding wheel back groove (reserved during manufacturing). Stress relief area to reduce the risk of breakage.
