Water (Ground) Source Heat Pump Unit

A water-source heat pump is an integrated heat pump unit that uses water as a heat source for both cooling and heating. During heating operation, it uses water as a heat source, and during cooling operation, it uses water as a heat sink. Water-source heat pump systems vary in operating conditions depending on the source of the heat source. They are generally classified as follows: wastewater-source heat pump systems, surface water-source heat pump systems, and ground-source heat pump systems. Among these, ground-source heat pump systems can be further divided into groundwater-source heat pump systems and soil-coupled heat pump systems. Currently, ground-source heat pump systems are the most widely applied.

Soil-coupled heat pump systems are heat pump systems that use soil as a heat source or sink, also known as ground-source heat pump systems with underground pipes. In this system, pipes are buried underground to serve as heat exchangers, connected to the heat pump unit to form a closed-loop circuit. The circulation of fluid within the pipes enables the system to operate continuously. In groundwater-source heat pump systems, the low-temperature heat source is groundwater extracted from wells or abandoned mines. Geothermal heat pump systems utilize geothermal energy, making them unaffected by outdoor environmental conditions and climate. The heat source temperature remains relatively stable throughout the year, typically ranging from 10°C to 25°C.
